When I started Conversation Pieces in my bedroom eight years ago, I couldn't have possibly imagined what it would become or the enormous friendships that it’s brought me. We've grown so much over the years, sometimes in small ways (but in many big ways too),
Then, I had just relocated from Singapore to Los Angeles. Clueless in a new land, I found young people online who shared my passion in fashion and design, who were interested to showcase their works beyond the United States. In my bedroom, on a laptop, I built a website to host the works of these designers.
Word of mouth within the indie industry soon sent other design students from fashion schools as far as Spain, the UK, Australia and Greece to us, and soon a global design community formed. I had known nothing about the fashion business. All I wanted to do was create a venue for young indie designers to be able to sell their creations.
As people started to hear about us, we grew.
I moved the business from the bedroom, to
the living room, to our guest house. My
techie husband upgraded me to a more
powerful laptop, I continued to take photos,
write descriptions and ship out of our home.
Conversation Pieces has grown steadily
and shoppers at Conversation Pieces know they can get unique,
one of a kind, limited quantity creations, while at the same time supporting indie fashion around the world.
A big thank you goes out to you, our customers, friends (Carise, Dinah, Jeanne, Mabel, Colleen and Vinz) and vendors for making it possible for me to be able to do something that I truly love.
DESIGNERS, LOOK UP!
If you are a designer and wish to be featured on our site, please send me an introduction of yourself and pictures of your merchandise.
